What is a health worker or professional?

Employment and roles within the UK health sector are extremely diverse with a workforce spanning statutory, private and voluntary sectors. Health care accounts for approximately 7% of employment in the UK. The growth rate within the health sector is one of the highest compared to other employment sectors and is above the rate of growth expected for the overall economy (Health Sector Information, National Guidance Research Forum, 2006). Careers and job opportunities within this sector are varied and  include nursing and midwifery, health visitors and health care assistants, medical, dentistry, paediatrics and allied health professions to name but a few.
